Cats, Kittens and an Author, Oh My!
Helping Creatures that can’t help themselves, is what the Spring Lake Animal Shelter is all
about. Watching the caring staff work with the kittens and cats is amazing.  You would think
the animals should be nervous and agitated with the new surroundings, the traffic outside
and inside, the parade of humans gazing into their cages.  But, as the strong wind blew paper
and what resembled tumble weed around the parking lot, the calm and loving care givers
were responsible for the demeanor of the felines. The cats and kittens, contrary to the old
saw, “cats mimic the wind,” were happy to see the visitors, the children, and the adults that
wanted to pet, hold or interact with them. Not a nervous cat or kitten in the bunch.

On April 17, 2010, with the help of
Pets Supplies Plus, who hosted them, people were able
to have firsthand experience with the felines as they interacted with the cats and kittens from
the shelter as well as adopt them if they tugged at their heart strings.

Mystery Suspense Author Billie A Williams joined in the fun with a book signing for her new
novel
Fin, Fur and Fatal by donating half of her royalties from the sale of that book for that
day to the Spring Lake Animal Shelter. During the drawing that followed, one of the prizes
Williams donated was a $25 gift sponsorship for the adoption of a pet from the Spring Lake
Animal Shelter.  Williams said she was happy to contribute to finding another perfect match
between a happy home, a happy person and a very happy pet.

The day was a success thanks to the wonderful staff at Pets Supplies Plus, the superb care
givers from The Spring Lake Animal Shelter, and the amazing crowd of visitors that stopped
by to donate, adopt, or visit with the pets and the author or buy a book and sign up for the
drawing. The benefits were long ranging and far reaching for everyone involved.

Donations are always welcomed and appreciated, says Bill Hardacre, president of the board
of directors of the
Spring Lake Animals Shelter in Iron Mountain. As they get their new
shelter ready where they will be able to accommodate many more pets and a carry out a
much needed benefit for the areas communities, you can be a part of this humane adventure
in caring. The wagging tail that asks for nothing but always gives love, the purring kitten that
always says thank you for attention and entertains you with his or her antics, what could be
better, it’s a win win situation for everyone.

As visitors stopped to visit with the Shelter’s adoptable pets, or browse the store for needed fin, fur
or feather supplies, some stopped to chat with the author and buy a book or two. Here Gloria
Persinger is talking with Williams and her husband Tom while she bought her copies of
Fin, Fur
and Fatal.
